I moved for work this year. I meet the distance and time requirements. I moved my things from Sacramento to San Francisco over several car trips. Can I write off the mileage for these multiple stuff-moving trips? Can I write off the mileage getting from SF back to Sac with an empty car, or just from Sac to SF with a full car?

ANSWER

The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:

Unfortunately, the tax code (IRS Publication 521) only allows one, one-way trip from your old home to your new home as a deductible moving expense. Please note that moving expenses are calculated on Form 3903, and deducted from adjusted gross income on Form 1040. Since they are an adjustment to income, they are not subject to limitations on Schedule A.
