If my child lives with me for part of the year and I don't claim him as a dependent, can I claim him for the child care tax credit?

ANSWER

The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:

Typically, the child must be a dependent to claim the child care tax credit. This means that the child must be related to you and live with you for more than half of the year. There are exceptions in the cases of divorced or separated parents, as the divorce decree can dictate the proper treatment.
