Will it benefit me filing injured spouse if I just collected unemployment, but my wife worked. I'm the injured spouse but I don't have earned income, just unemployment compensation.

ANSWER

The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:

It depends on the circumstances. However, when you file for injured spouse, the IRS treats both spouses as if they filed separately. They consider the total refund of both parties and apportion them based on the total income. If your only income was unemployment, there would be no benefit to you.
