My daughter is 19, a full time student in college, and working. Can I claim her and does she still file a tax return?

ANSWER

Expert Michael Lim's Answer:

Yes, as a student, you can claim her as a dependent up to age 24.  She must be a full time student for more than half of the year, and the parents must provide more than 50% of their support.

If the daughter also makes less than $5,700 (the standard deduction for 2010), then she has no filing requirement.  The only reason she would need to file a tax return would be if she had taxes withheld from her paycheck.
