I have just received my Social Security number, can I amend my 2009 tax return that was filed under my TIN?

ANSWER

Expert Michael Lim's Answer:

You may, but unless there is a better reason other than to correctly state your Social Security # on your tax return, there is very little to be gained by doing so.

Your TIN serves as an identification number, just like your social security number.  As long it was correctly issued, your return is properly filed.
