We provide heating fuel to homes and businesses in and around Kenai county, Alaska. How should we be charging sales tax?

ANSWER

The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:

The sales tax added to the sale price shall be based on the delivery location. As such, if the delivery location does not have a sales tax as is the case with Kenai County, then you should not be collecting sales tax.

If the fuel is for purposes other than heating a home or business, you should be collecting sales tax based on your retail location or the 6% rate in Kenai county.
