If I am a resident of Illinois and purchase a vehicle in Ohio for a trade-in, how is the sales tax calculated?

ANSWER

Expert Thomas Graham iii's Answer:

Sales tax relates to the area where the purchase is made.  In this case, you being a resident of the state of Illinois is irrelevant.  You will pay one rate which will include federal, state, and local taxes all rolled into one.
