Are Energy-Efficient Windows a Tax Credit for Businesses?

It is smart to be proactive and replace your windows to save on those energy costs. However, the government does not have a specific energy tax credit for businesses that replace their windows for more energy-efficient ones, as you may be planning. On the positive side, you will likely save on your energy bill which energy star estimates could be as much as 10% a yr!

The Window Energy Tax Credit Is For Homes
The government does have this type of energy tax credit for homeowners and it is 30% of the project cost or up to $1,500–but it is not for businesses.

Most of the energy tax credits that are available for businesses are geared towards the alternative energy industry or businesses that have manufacturing plants in which the overall energy emissions of the plant may be an issue.

Also, if you are interested in other tax credits available to businesses there is the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. This tax credit is issued to employers that hire individuals unable to gain employment because of significant barriers. Generally, the tax credit is 40 percent of the first $6,000 in first year wages or $2,400.

Good luck and continue working on being green. Every bit helps. Also, let us know if you have any additional tax questions.

Make Sure The Home Improvements Are Energy Star Certified
For those homeowners out there that plan to install energy efficient windows, make sure that they have an energy star certification to qualify for this energy credit.
